Publisher's Description:

File Append and Split Tool - The Problem:

Size Does Matter. It's a movie slogan from Hollywood, but it also applies to today's computing industry. Music files, video files, zip files... Everything keeps getting bigger and bigger. It's not uncommon for media and data files to tip the scales at 100 megabytes or more. Some files are over 1 gigabyte in size! At the same time, computer users need to transfer or store these files on CDs, DVDs, portable flash media, or by email. While file sizes seem to be heading toward the infinite, file transfer and storage methods will always be finite.

The Solution:

As is often the case, the best way to handle a large problem is to break it into smaller, more manageable pieces. File Append and Split Tool can split massive files into smaller pieces, so the pieces can be dealt with individually. It can also append the smaller files back together, recreating the original file exactly. F.A.S.T. is very easy to use, and can be used to split all types of files, binary or text: ZIP, MPG, MP3, WMV, TXT, etc. And F.A.S.T. can be used on files of all sizes: up to 16 million terabytes. You can specify the desired size of the output files, select the output media, or simply indicate the number of files to be created.

* Split files of any type: ZIP, MPG, MP3, WMV, AVI, TXT...
* Split files of any size: up to 16 million terabytes on NTFS systems
* Split files for sending via email, or to fit on portable or backup media
* Create a batch file to append files later on, without the need for F.A.S.T.
* Drag and drop files from Explorer, or other sources
* Name files on the command line
* Split files by user-defined size, standard media size, or into 'n' parts
* Arrange the file append order manually, or sort by name, date or size
* For text files, optionally split files on a newline boundary
* Flexible syntax for controlling sequential numbering of split files
* Pause for media swap when writing to removable media
* Exhaustive error checking

Spitting without an AVI header rewrite???
Leaves one with 1 usable part (in case of splitting) and the rest is useless. Rethink the entire software. Split/analyse and add appropriate header(s).
Also think of the coding used in the AVI. H264/XVID/DIVX/OGG etc....

Author's Response:
This user seems to have misunderstood the software's purpose. It is NOT for splitting movies or EXEs into playable/runnable pieces. It is for splitting massive files so that the pieces can be stored more easily on removable media, diskettes, CDs, etc., or so they can be emailed.

Experience with Gsplits 2.1
ON my Win Vista I noticed the follwoing issues:
1. When selecting different destination drives, the capacity information does not update, additionally the REFRESH button has no effect.
2. The pre-defined size for a DVD+-R is too large.
3. I couldn't successfully split a 11Gb file directly onto multiple DVDs, although I could split it into the same folder.
4. I noticed several bug reports on re-uniting the split files, bt as yet haven't gotten time to test that on my splits.

Clean and Fast
Thank you for a simple program that does just what I needed. I used a camcorder that had a hard drive and each time I stopped the unit to move to a new location it started a new file. With this simple program I was able to sew them together and make one movie. Thanks again.

Comment
It works so well and easy to use. Only one thing didn't like it was after the file go split, the file name created as bigfile.txt.12. I wish it get crested as bigfile.12.txt
